Nigel Winterburn backs Arsene Wenger to lead Arsenal to Premier League glory

Arsene Wenger Waves

Nigel Winterburn believes that Arsenal will win the Premier League title again under manager Arsene Wenger.

Nigel Winterburn has told The Sun that Arsene Wenger will lead Arsenal to Premier League glory in the coming years.

North London outfit Arsenal have not won the league title since 2004, finishing second only on one occasion since.

Arsenal have finished in the top four consistently and have featured in the Champions League, though, but they have struggled to compete for the title with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

However, former Arsenal defender Winterburn believes that manager Wenger will win the Premier League title before he eventually leaves the Gunners.

“I think Arsene is the man to lead Arsenal to another Premier League title,” the 51-year-old told The Sun. “We’ve seen a big difference in recent seasons with the money now available to the manager so he can bring in players like Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

“With everyone fit and Gabriel Paulista coming in, maybe next season with one addition to the squad, Arsenal will challenge for the title.

“The Premier League is so competitive but, with the style of football they play then I don’t see any reason why anyone else would do a substantially better job than Arsene.”

Can it happen?

Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are financially very secure, which means that they can spend money on top players.

However, manager Wenger has not always splashed the cash and been quite shrewd in the transfer market.

Perhaps that is why Arsenal have fallen behind City and Chelsea, who have consistently spent a lot of money on top players and have reaped the benefits.

At this moment in time, it does not appear likely that Wenger will win a Premier League title with Arsenal anytime soon, mainly because the current squad is just not as strong as their main rivals.
