The Italian left Newcastle to rejoin his former club Inter Milan on loan.
Newcastle United let plenty of players leave the club on Transfer Deadline day, the majority of them going to Rangers as part of Mike Ashley’s Scottish football branch out. But they also saw Davide Santon leave the club. The versatile full-back returned to former club Inter Milan on loan until the end of the season.
Now Santon has been discussing the move back to Inter. Speaking to the club’s official website Santon has spoken of how Inter is his ‘home’ and that he was happy to be back at the club where he started his career:
"I bring more experience after these three-and-a-half years. In England I made about 100 appearances even though I did not play for almost nine months due to injury. I came here to get involved. This is my home. I received a call from Piero [Ausilio] and after a couple of hours I called back and I was happy to come back."
He also went on to discuss the small matter of a Tweet from his girlfriend on deadline day. The Daily Mail report that Chloe Sanderson sent out a series of Tweets, hours before he had his move to Inter confirmed by either club, heavily criticising the ‘disgusting’ treatment of Santon by Newcastle.
Santon simply said of those comments:
"The Tweet? Was the result of a misunderstanding."
Santon was a regular at Newcastle but suffered with injury problems in the latter stages of his Toon career. He had not started for the club in the Premier League this season and has played just once all season, in the FA Cup defeat to Leicester City.
Now he will be hoping to get his career back on track, back where it all began.
