Michael Owen had predicted Liverpool to win the Merseyside derby against Everton in his Betvictor.com column.
The former Liverpool striker believes that Brendan Rodgers’s side will have too much firepower for Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League clash.
“The Reds welcomed back Daniel Sturridge against West Ham last weekend and I just think his return, allied to the skill and pace of the inform Raheem Sterling and Phillippe Coutinho, will be too much for the Blues who have only won three of their last 12 PL games at Goodison,” the 35-year-old wrote on Betvictor.com. “It is sure to be a feisty occasion but it is the red half of Merseyside that can rule the roost.”
Could Owen’s prediction come true?
Liverpool will indeed head into Saturday’s Merseyside derby as favourites, even though they are the visitors. The Reds have been impressive of late and have made a very good start to 2015.
With star striker Daniel Sturridge back and already among the goals, Rodgers’s team will be confident of scoring against Everton.
Liverpool have also looked strong in defence over the past few weeks or so, but Everton’s chances of winning the derby cannot be dismissed rightaway.
Roberto Martinez’s side are having a less than impressive season, but one can expect them to raise their game against Liverpool.
Perhaps Everton will not win on Saturday, but they can certainly pick up a draw.
