Akpom and Francis Coquelin have both signed new deals at Arsenal this week.
This morning saw Arsene Wenger confirm that both Francis Coquelin and Chuba Akpom have signed new deals at the club. The two young players have signed long-term deals, as their current options expired at the end of the season, after recently impressing in the Arsenal first-team.
Coquelin was recalled from a recent loan spell at Charlton Athletic to fill a gap in the Arsenal midfield, something he has done with aplomb. Akpom on the other hand has stepped up in the absence of Danny Welbeck through injury to prove himself a top talent worthy of an Arsenal future. Indeed, he seemed to push his way in front of Yaya Sanogo in the pecking order, the Frenchman eventually joining Crystal Palace on loan.
The teenager is clearly delighted with the news, as he shared this enthusiastic Tweet on his official page earlier today:
Akpom has been a prolific goalscorer for the Arsenal youth teams over the past couple of seasons but struggled on loan spells away from the club at the likes of Brentford and Coventry City.
He has now played twice in the Premier League this season and he impressed in his most recent cameo against Aston Villa, winning a penalty five minutes after coming on in the 5-0 triumph.
Time will tell if he can cement his place in the Arsenal first-team going forward.
