Tottenham Hotspur's appointment of Paul Mitchell as their head of recruitment and analysis may have been a decision designed to have an impact over the long-term, but it looks like he has already proved to be a valuable addition.
Mitchell was brought in by Tottenham to oversee their transfer dealings, after his recruitment policy at Southampton impressed, and the club have already seen the benefit of his appointment.
Tottenham had a quiet January transfer window, but their signing of Dele Alli from MK Dons was one of the most intriguing that any club in the country completed.
Alli looks to have the potential to be a star of the future and his arrival at White Hart Lane has been greeted with great anticipation.
It is hard not to think that Mitchell played a big role in his signing. As a player, Mitchell represented MK Dons for five years and he then went on to work in a behind-the-scenes role at the League One outfit.
It means that few people will know of Alli's talents better than Mitchell, who has seen him develop from a teenager into a first-team star, and he was clearly in a good position to make a recommendation on the transfer.
It remains to be seen whether Mitchell will end the years of poor transfers at Tottenham and make their recruitment policy more successful, but the initial signs that he is having an impact are encouraging.
He will now be hoping that Alli develops into a star for the club so the first transfer he has had an influence over can be ticked off as a success.
