The Brazilian was linked after Samuel Eto'o headed to Sampdoria.
January certainly threw up some interesting transfer rumours, one if which was Everton’s apparent interest in former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato. The Daily Mail rumoured that Everton had been offered the Sao Paulo striker after watching Samuel Eto’o move after just seven months, joining Serie A side Sampdoria.
The deal was ambitious considering the big name status of the player but it soon gathered momentum.
Of course in the end there was no agreement reached and Pato remained at the Brazilian side.
Now he has certainly shown Everton exactly what they are missing out on. In the fixture last night for Sao Paulo, in which they took on Capivariano Pato was the star of the show.
He scored three goals for the home side, to mark, quite remarkably, his first ever career hat-trick.
He even set up the fourth goal scored by strike partner Alan Kardec.
Everton now have Romelu Lukaku and Arouna Kone as out and out strikers on their books. However, the likes of Kevin Mirallas and Ross Barkley are likely capable of stepping in if needs be.
But there is no doubt that having someone like Pato in the camp would not have hurt matters at Goodison Park.
