Mertesacker suggests two reasons for Gunners to be wary of Tottenham

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has given his thoughts ahead of the North London derby against Tottenham.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has suggested two reasons to the London Evening Standard for his side to be wary of Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Arsenal are ahead of Tottenham in the Premier League by two points and the German defender defender has suggested the match at White Hart Lane this weekend could be different to the same match from last season.

“Last season we did quite well at White Hart Lane, so we will try to repeat that. Now they have a new manager, there has been a change in the squad. It will be a good game, with an early kick off, so we need to be fresh,” said the German.

Mauricio Pochettino has taken his time to get Tottenham playing to his desired philosophy but there has been evidence in recent matches that they are slowly getting the message.

Spurs head into the match in good form after a thumping win against West Brom and it will be interesting to see how Pochettino prepares the side with Arsenal also coming off of a big win against Aston Villa.

Tottenham’s large squad is also something they could use to their advantage ahead of the game.

Arsenal have plenty of talented and quick players in midfield and attack, which could prompt Pochettino into one or two changes as he looks to keep everyone fit and fresh for the game.

It’s a difficult game to call because there’s not much between the teams in terms of league position and recent form, though Spurs do have the home advantage, which Arsenal also need to be wary of.
