Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT yesterday what he found was the most intimidating thing about playing Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby.
Tottenham host the Gunners in the next derby this weekend at White Hart Lane, as they look to leapfrog Arsenal in the race for the top four.
“I always found that coming around the corner on the team coach – The fans surrounding White Hart Lane, it was always hostile,” said Keown.
Tottenham have the home advantage this weekend and the team needs to try and use that to their advantage.
An intimidating home crowd can put the away side on the back foot, causing them to start the game slowly which should allow Tottenham to press high and try to give themselves an early advantage.
The fans will also have a big role to play if Tottenham don’t start the game well.
Arsenal have some talented creative players in midfield and attack and Spurs could need lifting to prevent heads from dropping if they concede an early goal during the game.
There’s always going to be plenty of banter in the build up to a North London derby but it’s important Tottenham fans funnel it productively this weekend.
