'All-star' veteran stock picker loses battle with cancer

Lawrence Adelman, a repeat 'all-star' analyst of food, beverage and tobacco companies as director of research for Dean Witter Reynolds Inc., has died. He was 75.

Bloomberg News reports that he died on Feb. 2 in Boca Raton, Florida. The cause was complications from brain cancer. He was a longtime resident of Great Neck, New York.

Known as Larry, Adelman spent more than 20 years sharing insight with Dean Witter brokers and institutional investors on some of America’s most familiar consumer brands, including Kraft Foods Inc. and General Mills Corp.; Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo Inc.; and Philip Morris Cos. and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.
