Loic who's talking now

Saint-Etienne defender Loic Perrin has admitted that he would have been keen on a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window. The Frenchman, who has spent his entire career at Les Verts, was linked with a move to Arsenal by The Telegraph at the end of December. Arsene Wenger was said to be looking for a player who could play both centre-back and holding midfield, something Perrin is more than capable of.

But the move never happened and Perrin has today told But! Football Club:

"There have been serious contacts through my agent. I think I was on a shortlist but not at the top, apparently!

"A move in the [January] transfer window? It's always complicated but it's hard to deny Arsenal.

"I have always said that, if I had to leave ASSE one day, it would be for a bigger club to play in the Champions League. A club like Arsenal. I do not think many players in Ligue 1 would reject them."

In the end Arsenal snapped up young Polish talent Krystian Bielik from Legia Warsaw and Brazilian star Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal to strengthen their defensive issues.

Jack smoker

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has again been caught out in a smoking row, after being spotted holding a shisha pipe in a London nightclub appearance.

The Telegraph allege that the photo in question was from last week. Wilshere has previously been snapped smoking on two occasions in the past.

With the recent Wojciech Szczesny smoking in the showers business still fresh in the memory, this is one controversy Wenger could do without.

Wilshere is currently on his way back to full fitness after ankle surgery.
