England under-21 boss Gareth Southgate has explained what’s impressed him about Harry Kane to the Daily Mail.
Kane has been in great form for Tottenham Hotspur this season, scoring his 20th goal of the season last weekend in the Premier League game against West Brom.
“It has been brilliant how he has kept his form for quite a sustained period so let’s hope he can continue that. He’s in a great place at the moment,” said Southgate.
“He is keeping some outstanding players out of the team.”
Kane has been tipped by the Daily Mail to earn a call-up to the England senior side under Roy Hodgson.
He could also feature in the under-21 side for the under-21 European Championship this summer.
Either way, it’s encouraging that he’s maintaining his status with the coaches controlling the England national teams.
The challenge for Kane is going to be how he’ll deal with the pressure and extra scrutiny the next time he walks out wearing an England shirt, regardless of the level.
His form means there is extra attention and scrutiny focused on him, which he has to deal with on a personal level.
It’s also going to be a challenge for him dealing with the tactics coming at him from any opposition side.
Teams are going to be working on ways to keep him quiet and out of games and he needs to make sure he can find ways to be effective against a variety of tactics.
If he can do that he’ll be successful for Spurs, the England senior team and the England under-21 team.
