Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been talking to the Liverpool Echo about the prospect of Kevin Mirallas leaving Goodison Park in January.
The Belgian international had been linked with a potential switch to Tottenham Hotspur, but ultimately the only business done between the two clubs was a loan move for Aaron Lennon.
Mirallas has a contract at Everton until the summer of 2016 and he remains an integral part of their side, having featured 21 times this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in that time.
So what did Martinez have to say about the rumours linking one of his star players with Tottenham?
“No, that was never even a consideration,” the Everton boss said.
“We worked really hard to try to get Aaron Lennon to Everton and that was the only deal we were focused on.”
Transfer windows have a habit of causing an overload of rumours and Mirallas found himself thrust swiftly and firmly into that proverbial mill.
But thankfully for Everton and their fans it appears Martinez had no intention of parting with Mirallas, leaving Tottenham to look elsewhere for potential new wide-men in the summer, while the Toffees will be hoping to tie the Belgian down to a new long-term contract sooner rather than later.
