Manchester United round-up: De Gea’s agent speaks; Brazilian on injury woes

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Former Manchester United player Anderson has been speaking, in comments published by the Telegraph, following his Old Trafford exit.

The Brazilian midfielder swapped United for Internacional in the final moments of the January transfer window, and he has since revealed that injuries were the main reason for his failure to find consistency in England.

Anderson made 181 appearances for United but he rarely hit the heights, scoring nine goals and setting up 21 despite arriving at the club with considerable fanfare.

After a few years of sustained trophy success at the club, Anderson was struck with a series of setbacks, and he said, “I had a knee injury and returned to play again too fast. I played but the knees were not equal and I got myself injured again.

“I had injuries in the past, but I have to be quiet right now and answer in the field.”

United fans will surely wish the 26-year-old well. After all, he was a favourite among supporters and teammates alike for his demeanour, even if he rarely showed his full potential on the pitch.

In other news, David de Gea’s agent has been speaking about his client’s future.

The United goalkeeper’s current contract expires in the summer of 2016 and until he signs a new long-term deal rumours regarding his future will persist.

But in an interview with the BBC later published by the Express, Mendes said, “He has one year left on his contract and I think he will stay in Manchester.

“The player will decide, but he’s happy there at the moment.”

De Gea has blossomed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world and if manager Louis van Gaal can tie him to a new deal it will be one of the best pieces of business he does at the club.
