Hironobu Sakaguchi has had a hand in many Final Fantasy and Square games over the years.

Creator of the Final Fantasy series, Hironobu Sakaguchi, is to recieve a lifetime achievement award at the 15th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards.

The Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco will play host to the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015, where the award will be presented. The ceremony is set to take place on 4th March, with the Choice Awards being hosted by Double Fine Productions' Tim Schafer.

Sakaguchi created Final Fantasy back in 1986 when he became the Director of Planning and Development at Square Company Ltd. (presently called Square Enix). He named the game Final Fantasy because he planned to leave the industry if the game didn't become successful.

Final Fantasy has gone on to generate many more games, spin-offs, TV shows, and movies over the years.

Sakaguchi went on to form Mistwalker games studio in 2004, which has since created the Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and Terra Battle, games.
