After a tweet promoting its Popcorn Nuggets, KFC is facing a backlash from Twitter users for marketing its fried food to children.

Along with a picture of a child holding a nugget and drinking from a KFC cup, the fast food chain tweeted:

The tweet, and the hashtag #MyFirstPopcornNugget, caught fire with Twitter users. Some were fans of KFC, owned by Yum Brands , and some shamed the company, accusing it of using genetically modified chicken, equating the nuggets to feces and

KFC did not immediately respond to requests for comment from CNBC.
