Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio has told the club’s website it was important for the club to head into the North London derby this weekend with a win.
Tottenham were comfortable winners at West Brom last weekend, with a brace from Harry Kane and another goal from Christian Eriksen enough to secure the points.
“It was a good win at West Brom and we are in a good position in the league,” said the Tottenham defender.
“It was a very important three points because the next game is the derby and we wanted to go into that off the back of a win.”
“It was an important result for our confidence and for the team.”
Momentum is everything ahead of big games and Mauricio Pochettino’s job this week would have been made a little easier.
Tottenham will be full of confidence as they prepare to face Arsenal, with a good performance at the Emirates earlier in the season to also fall back on.
The individual confidence of important players will also be crucial as Harry Kane will feel in good form, as will Eriksen, who was the difference in the League Cup semi-final against Sheffield United last week.
Tottenham need to start the game quickly this weekend, pressing their home advantage and making the most of the confidence Fazio feels is in the team.
If they can stifle Arsenal’s creative players and make the most of their chances, there’s no reason why Tottenham can’t move above the Gunners in the Premier League table.
