Derby County loan duo Jesse Lingard and Tom Ince showed off the numbers they will wear for the remainder of the season during an unusual training session at the club’s home stadium.
The Manchester United midfielder was snapped wearing the Rams’ number 16 jersey, formerly worn by the departed Paul Coutts. While, the Hull City attacker went for the same number as Beckham famously wore at Real Madrid – 23 – formerly worn by Kieron Freeman.
Ince and Lingard both signed on loan for Derby in the last few hours of the January transfer window, so it seems likely Steve McClaren may have moved the training session from the Moor Farm Training Ground to the iPro Stadium in order for the new boys to get used to their home surroundings.
Both players were shown to be in the thick of the training session as preparations began for perhaps the biggest week in the East Midland’s side’s season.
Derby will host Neil Lennon’s Bolton Wanderers side on Saturday before travelling to Bournemouth in what some supporters are dubbing as the biggest game of the season.
Steve McClaren’s men would really take a huge leap in their quest for Premier League football if they could grab six points from the two upcoming fixtures as it would guarantee them pole position in the Championship table with 16 games remaining, and at least three points clear of Bournemouth.
Lingard and Ince will be eager to break into the side as soon as possible and are likely to get their chance to impress against Bolton on Saturday, either from the start or off the bench.
If the duo can perform to the previous standards they set in the Championship – Ince at Blackpool and Lingard at Brighton and Birmingham – the East Midlands side will have a very good chance of collecting the six points that would see them hit the summit of the Championship.
