Southampton fans react on Twitter after deadline day signing of Ryan Bertrand

Southampton fans were delighted to secure a permanent deal for Ryan Bertrand on deadline day.

Southampton wrapped up the loan signing of Benfica winger Filip Djuricic on deadline day, and then followed that up with more great news.

Left back Ryan Bertrand, who was on loan at St. Mary's Stadium from Chelsea, has now signed a permanent deal with the Saints, as confirmed on the official website.

The 25-year-old had struggled to break into the Chelsea team, and after spending time on loan with Aston Villa last season, made the move to Southampton as Luke Shaw's replacement last summer.

Whilst Shaw was a big player for Southampton, Bertrand has helped fans forget about the Manchester United left back very quickly with a host of superb displays.

With two goals and two assists to his name, Bertrand has been a key attacking force for Ronald Koeman's men, whilst he's also played a huge part in the Premier League's meanest defence.

Fans were naturally ecstatic to have tied up a permanent deal for Bertrand, who signs a four-and-a-half year contract to stay with the club.

Supporters took to Twitter to air their delight, with many suggesting that selling Shaw and bringing in Bertrand was a superb deal from the Saints.
