SOE goes indie, changes name to Daybreak Game Company

DC Universe Online

The now independent developer can branch out to Xbox platforms, and its games like DC Universe Online will continue as normal.

SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) has broken away from Sony and has now become an independent studio.

Columbus Nova, an investment management company, acquired SOE in a deal announced on Monday. SOE have changed their name to Daybreak Game Company following the deal's settlement.

This change in ownership has opened up the studio to develop games for other platforms. "We will continue to focus on creating exceptional online games for players around the world, and now as a multi-platform gaming company. Yes, that means PlayStation and Xbox, mobile and more," read the announcement.

Daybreak Game Company's president, John Smedley, has already announced his excitement to create Xbox One games.

The studio's games currently in development, such as H1Z1, will "continue on their current path of development and operation" and they "expect to have even more resources available" as a result of their new owners.
