Davide Santon left Newcastle United for Inter Milan on loan for the rest of the season on transfer deadline day.
Italian giants Inter have an option to sign the full-back on a permanent deal at the end of the campaign.
Italy international Santon joined Newcastle from 2010 Champions League winners Inter in the summer of 2011.
Much was expected of the Italian, but he failed to make too big an impact in the Premier League despite showing some promising signs from time to time.
The 24-year-old has been struggling with injuries this season and could not make a single appearance for the Magpies in the Premier League.
Last season Santon featured in 27 league matches for Newcastle, creating 22 chances and having a pass accuracy of 80% in the process.
In the 2012-13 campaign, the Italian scored one goal and created 28 chances in 31 Premier League matches, while having a pass accuracy of 84% and a shot accuracy of 85%.
Following the announcement of Santon’s loan move to Inter, Newcastle fans took to social networking site Twitter to have their say on the club’s decision.
Below are the best reactions.
Imagine the #nufc team which may have been: Krul, Janmaat, Colo, MYM, Santon, Cabaye, Tiote, Sissoko, Cabella, Cisse, Ba.— Andrew Musgrove (@ADMusgrove) February 3, 2015
Not the worst transfer deadline day, lose Santon, keep Sissoko. I know which one would have made more impact on 2nd half of season #nufc— Dan Sherliker (@dannysherls11) February 3, 2015
Can't believe my eyes with some comments from #NUFC fans. Only disappointment no one in? Santon can't defend? Er, you seen our defenders?— Kerry Leigh (@_kerryleigh) February 3, 2015
Santon, Streete and Mbabu leaving means #NUFC have barely any cover for CB's - even at youth/reserve level.— Marley Anderson (@91Marley) February 2, 2015
#NUFC send Santon on loan with view 2 permanent move & loan out another 5 players 2 Rangers & bring no one in, 2 injuries & won't hav a team— scott ririe (@scottririe) February 2, 2015
