With Anderson ending his disappointing Manchester United career to return to Brazil with Internacional, fans of the club have been taking to Twitter to share their views on the much-maligned midfielder.
Signed from Porto in the summer of 2007 for a reported £20 million fee, Anderson was hailed as Brazil’s future number 10 upon arriving at Old Trafford, but struggled to fulfil his potential after being pushed back into a box-to-box role under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Struggling with injuries and fitness issues, the eight-time capped international made just 10 first-team appearances for the club over the past two season after spending the second half of the 2013-14 campaign on loan at Fiorentina, while turning out twice for new manager Louis van Gaal this term.
Having had just six months to run on his contract, the former Gremio product was allowed to leave on a free transfer for their Porte Alegre-based rivals, where it’s hoped he will be able to replicate the form which once saw him hailed as a potential superstar.
In total, Anderson featured 181 times for United, recording nine goals and 21 assists, while also winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League, two League Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup.
He did have some bright moments, including scoring in the Champions League final shootout win over Chelsea, but, for the most part, fans will look back at his career and wonder just how it went so wrong.
Embarrassing how United paid £26m for Anderson, certainly goes up there as one of our biggest wastes of money ever anyway... #MUFC— Fraser Blythe (@fraser_blythe) February 3, 2015
Of course Anderson had to leave, but he was on course to become a great player before he ate himself to the reserves! #MUFC— Donald .K (@_The_CandyMan) February 3, 2015

Really hope Anderson gets more luck at Internacional. Its a shame his potential wasn't fulfilled at Man Utd due to a number of reasons #MUFC— Daniel Mackay (@DanMackay10) February 3, 2015
Good riddance to Anderson who's moved to Internacional on a free transfer. No loss. He's a great example of unfulfilled potential. #mufc— Aodan Wrenn (@aodanwrenn) February 3, 2015
First season he was consistent and showed quality after that very average and shooting was awful. Still all the best to Anderson #MUFC— Jonathan Tipper (@jonnytipper) February 3, 2015
Anderson was no doubt a flop 4 us but his penalty in the champions league final against chelsea was hell ov a contribution! #MUFC— Hasnain Adeel (@HasnainAraiyn) February 3, 2015
Good luck Anderson! Some nice words as he left. Did put in some great performances once upon a time. Won't forget the energy he bought #mufc— Charlie (@footballgirl732) February 3, 2015
The best signing we made in this window is selling Anderson. #mufc— Daroyalgaganess (@DaRoyalGaganess) February 3, 2015
Seems Anderson was a big character in the dressing room. Bet he'll be missed. Just a shame can't say that about him on the field. #MUFC— Lee Parkinson (@P4RTY) February 3, 2015
Anderson's united career was hampered by a combination of lots of things but he was a great servant to the club. gd luck to him #mufc— ckry224 (@MURAlss) February 3, 2015
Anderson didn't live up to the hype, but you have to admire how much he loved being a #MUFC player..Was very well liked by players— Jordan Commissiong (@JCommiss) February 3, 2015
