Koeman on Southampton’s January transfer window and late loan deal

Ronald Koeman has been looking back on a busy time for Southampton in the transfer market.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has been speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel about their January transfers.

The Saints brought in Eljero Elia and Filip Djuricic on loan from Werder Bremen and Benfica respectively, as well as completing a permanent deal for Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand.

The latter had been on loan at St Mary’s since the start of the season, excelling in an impressive side and making 27 appearances thus far.

Having replaced Luke Shaw at the club he has swiftly proved there is life after the England international, and he is also proving to be an effective option at the opposite end of the pitch, as his two goals and three assists testify.

So what does Koeman think of the club's January window?

In an interview later published by Southampton’s official website he said, “It’s not the best time to bring in good players. At this moment the club wanted to bring in players on loan.

“Filip is a young player; it’s good to have young players who can develop and can be a good player for the future.”

Djuricic had been on loan at German club Mainz earlier this season, where he played 12 matches. He has previously appeared 22 times for Benfica and 111 times for Heerenveen.
