Ex-Tottenham man Dimitar Berbatov attacker pokes opponent in the eye

The Monaco striker took exception to Corentin Tolisso’s marking in his side’s 0-0 draw against Lyon.

Dimitar Berbatov was renowned for his languid style during his time in the Premier League with Tottenham, Manchester United and Fulham, but he was involved in a controversial incident at the weekend.

Since leaving England, the Bulgarian has been stepping out for Monaco in Ligue 1 and did not cover himself in glory in a recent match.

In the Principality outfit’s 0-0 draw against Lyon on Sunday night, Berbatov seemingly took exception to Corentin Tolisso’s tight marking at a set-piece, and poked his opponent in the eye as can be seen in The Mirror's video below.

As yet there has been no announcement on the potential of retrospective punishment against the star, but Berbatov will surely not be proud of his actions in the aftermath of the game.

Berbatov was part of an expansive Spurs side before leaving White Hart Lane to join United in 2008.

The former Bayer Leverkusen attacker finished the 2010-11 season as the Premier League’s top goalscorer and won two Premier League titles at Old Trafford.

In total, Berbatov scored 94 goals during his time in England.
