Ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez defended by Jordi Alba

Suarez Free Kick

The Uruguayan is struggling to hit the net for Barcelona this season but is still contributing according to the left-back.

Luis Suarez’s absence may well be felt at Liverpool in 2014-15, but the Uruguayan has failed to replicate the form he showed at Anfield for his new club this season.

With Lionel Messi the undoubted main man at Barcelona, the Uruguay international has taken time to adjust to life at Camp Nou and has not scored as many goals as most expected him to.

Suarez was again off the mark against Villarreal at the weekend, with Messi scoring the winner for Luis Enrique’s men.

Despite Suarez not setting the world alight since his big-money move to Catalunya, team-mate Jordi Alba has come to his defence.

"Perhaps Suarez is having a tough time finishing, but he was a very good signing and he gives us what we lacked," the Spain international told the official Barcelona website.

"We have several great attackers now and that makes a difference.

"As the coach has said, our bench is very deep with excellent players and there are lots of options."

For Suarez, not scoring regularly will be something of a new phenomenon given his exemplary striker rate at Liverpool, Ajax and for his country.

With the likes of Neymar and Messi in the Barcelona forward line also, adjusting to being just another world-class star rather than Liverpool’s leading light has seemingly also taken time to get used to.

Suarez has netted two La Liga goals in 11 appearances this season for the title-chasing side, but has failed to net in his last five outings.
