Transfer deadline day was a relatively quiet affair for Manchester United and their supporters, but one major piece of business was completed when midfielder Darren Fletcher completed his switch from Old Trafford to West Bromwich Albion.
The Scotland international made 338 appearances for United prior to his departure, scoring 24 goals and providing 27 assists in that time.
For a while it looked as though his career would be brought to a premature halt after the player was struck down by ulcerative colitis but he recovered to make a comeback for the side he has served with aplomb.
However, having featured sparingly this season and with the presence of Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick, Daley Blind and Marouane Fellaini at the club, he has now moved on.
A number of his now former United teammates took to social media following the news to express their feelings about his free transfer and reflect on his time at Old Trafford.
Herrera, David de Gea and Rafael were among those to wish him well, with the Brazilian right-back particularly grateful for Fletcher’s involvement in his career when he first arrived at United.
