With Juan Cuadrado joining Chelsea from Fiorentina following Andre Schurrle’s £22 million departure for Wolsburg, Blues fans took to Twitter at the transfer deadline to give their take on the two deals.
Signing on a deal until 2019 for a reported £23.3 million, Cuadrado arrives at Stamford Bridge to much fanfare, having starred in Serie A for the Florence-based outfit over the past three seasons.
Moving from Udinese in the summer of 2013 for £17.6 million, following an initial season-long loan, the Colombian winger racked up 26 goals in 106 total appearances during his time with la Viola, while also recording the joint-most assists at the World Cup in Brazil with four.
Schurrle, meanwhile, made the £18 million switch from Bayer Leverkusen to north London in June 2013, before going on to hit eight goals in 30 Premier League games during his debut campaign.
However, the German World Cup-winner saw his opportunities limited during his second term at the club, and had made just five top-flight starts prior to his return to the Bundesliga to sanction Cuadrado’s purchase.
With both moves standing out as two of the most significant of what was a somewhat quiet transfer window, here’s how Chelsea fans reacted to their club’s dealings.
Can't wait to see what @Cuadrado is all about ! Quality to watch in the World Cup. #CFC

I have forgotten about Schurrle already tbh, buzzing to see Cuadrado now. #CFC

Buzzing to see @Cuadrado in action as well! Think he's a better option compared to Schurrle, although kinda gutted he's gone! #CFC

Why have we sold a potential legend in Schurrle and taken a risk by signing that Cuadrado? Most pointless transfer ever #CFC #SSNHQ

As much as I hate to see Schurrle go, I'm extremely glad with the Cuadrado signing. Welcome @Cuadrado! #CFC

I do like the look of Juan Cuadrado, but I am gutted to Schurrle has been sacrificed for that, I think he was a class act #CFC

Cuadrado better hit the ground running at #cfc as Mourinho is ruthless with his attackers. Mata sent packing & Schurrle hardly got a chance.

Excited by Cuadrado arriving but sorry that Schurrle has gone. Goals v City, PSG and hat-trick at Fulham hinted at what could have been #cfc

This Cuadrado move better pay off because Schurrle was an amazing talent. #CFC

Chelsea will regret selling Schurrle and buying Cuadrado. #CFC

Not sure if Cuadrado is an improvement on Schurrle on ability. Probably good for Chelsea to mix things up though. #CFC

Schurrle > Cuadrado. #CFC

Hate losing Schurrle but Cuadrado is a big improvement over Willian - now there's actually a scoring threat opposite Hazard - GG PL/CL #CFC
