Everton legend Andy Gray told talkSPORT that he didn’t care about the way the club played in the weekend win against Crystal Palace.
Gray explained to the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show that he wasn’t bothered as long as Everton got the points to get them moving in the right direction.
“I really didn’t care about the way the side played, the most important thing is that they got a win – They just needed a win,” said Gray.
Everton were superb against Palace, a team that had just beaten Southampton away from home.
It certainly wasn’t the team’s best performance but the win was significant for a number of reasons.
It gives Martinez’s team confidence and a winning mentality, which in turn gives the side momentum and gets them moving up the table.
It was also a significant result because the Toffees managed to keep a clean sheet.
Only four sides in the Premier League have conceded more goals than Everton this season and it’s an area of the team, which would have caused concern for the boss.
The clean sheet will give the back four the confidence that they are doing something right and it should make them a little bit more determined heading into the next game.
Everton face a massive game against Liverpool this weekend and the slight upturn in confidence could make all the difference in the Merseyside derby.
