Why Rodolph Austin should decide to stay at Leeds United.
Rodolph Austin may have a big decision to make over his future at Leeds United as deadline day progresses.
But would he be better off rejecting the move? Here is a look at why he should turn down the chance to move to the Latics:
His manager wants to keep him
Head coach Neil Redfearn has been clear he wants Austin to stay at Leeds. In an interview with BBC Radio Leeds last week he said he viewed him as an important part of the club's present, and future.
While he has that faith behind him, having second thoughts over a move will be natural, especially as he knows it is not Redfearn pushing him out.
He appears to be enjoying his football
Right now Austin is in the midst of his best form of the season so far. He has helped the club go four games unbeaten, and looked impressive in each match.
His spot in the side is not guaranteed, but purely from a footballing perspective, he appears in a good place, and is not sitting kicking his heels on the bench.
League position and expiring contract
This is the most crucial aspect of Austin's decision. He will be leaving 19th placed Leeds for 23rd placed Wigan, 10 points behind and mired in the relegation zone.
It is not just about where Austin feels he has the best chance to win here and now, but his future. There is a strong chance if he makes this move, he will be playing football in League One next year.
If he remains at Leeds until the end of the season, even if the club do not offer him a new deal, he will be able to sign a new contract and surely secure a move to another Championship side, having a greater say in his own future.
