Southampton confirm loan signing of Benfica's Filip Djuricic

Southampton have announced the signing of Benfica midfielder Filip Djuicic on a season-long loan.

Southampton have confirmed the signing of Benfica midfielder Filip Djuricic on a loan deal for the remainder of the season..

Djuricic, 23, had spent the first half of the campaign on loan at German club Mainz, making 12 total appearances before ending his stint to head to the Premier League.

The Serbia international first made his name in Eredivisie after joining Heerenveen from hometown club Radnički Obrenovac in 2010, scoring 26 goals in 111 appearances to seal a €6 million move to Benfica in 2013.

He featured 22 times during his first full season in Lisbon, helping the club win the Primeira Liga and two domestic cup titles in the 2013-14 campaign, but failing to live up to the enormous potential he showcased in the Netherlands.

Having featured alongside Saints star Dusan Tadic for the national team, Djuricic will now have the chance to get his still-promising career back on track on the south coast under Ronald Koeman, who first became a big fan of his abilities after seeing him star in Dutch football.
