Sunderland are interested in signing Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom, according to the Daily Mail.
Akpom came off the substitutes' bench to make his third Premier League appearances for the Gunners at the weekend, in their 5-0 win over Aston Villa, but his future at Emirates Stadium is far from sorted.
Akpom's contract expires in the summer and Sunderland are apparently keen on capitalising on this uncertainty.
Borussia Dortmund and FC Twente are also said to be interested in signing the 18-year-old, but the attraction of staying in the Premier League could make the Black Cats the favourites.
Impact for Sunderland?
If Gus Poyet's side were able to bring Akpom to the Stadium of Light then it would be a notable addition from them.
Although he would be unlikely to be a mainstay in the first-team, the jet-heeled forward would expect to gain a sizeable amount of competitive action.
Sunderland have struggled for goals this campaign and Akpom may feel that he has a good chance of jumping in front of the likes of Steven Fletcher, Connor Wickham and Danny Graham in the pecking order if he does arrive.
