Report: Jesse Lingard signs new Manchester United contract, leaves for Derby County on loan

Jesse Lingard has reportedly signed a new deal at Manchester United, but he will join Derby County on loan for the rest of the season.

Jesse Lingard has signed a new contract with Manchester United and will leave on loan for Derby County, according to Sky Sports.

It has been reported that the 22-year-old attacking midfielder has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Premier League giants United.

However, the youngster will spend the rest of the 2014-15 campaign on loan at Derby, who are currently in the Championship and are gunning for promotion to the English top flight.

Good move for Lingard?

It appears to be a good move for United, Derby and Lingard.

While Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal has faith in the England Under-21 international’s ability, it is clear that he is not ready to step up yet.

This is a crucial season for United, who need to get back into the top four of the Premier League, and playing regularly for the first team was never going to happen.

Derby are having a very good season at the moment and are in firm contention of automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Rams will get some flair and youthful energy in their midfield, and that is certainly going to help their cause.

Although there is no guarantee that Lingard will play regularly for Derby, at least he will have a better chance of playing there than he would at United.
