Everton are hopeful of signing Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett, according to a report on Goal.com.
The Toffees are on the lookout for defenders before the transfer window closes and Blackett is thought to be at the top of Roberto Martinez’s wishlist.
The United youngster has broken into the Red Devils' first team this season but, with a fully fit squad, his chances of playing regular football appear limited and Everton feel they could persuade him to move to Goodison Park.
Impact for Everton?
A potential partnership featuring John Stones and Blackett at the heart of their defence would be one the club could build around for years to come, and the transfer would be quite a coup should they be able to pull it off.
Martinez has always had faith in youth and this would be further indication that he is building for the future at Goodison Park, even if pressure is beginning to mount on him.
At the moment Everton's defence is an ageing one, so the addition of Blackett would be considered an important one.
Blackett's arrival could force Sylvain Distin out of the club, with the Daily Mail suggesting that the club have told him that he is free to leave.
