Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon would be a good signing for Everton.
Stoke City were also keen on the services of the former Leeds United star, but BBC Sport claims that they have “missed out” on him.
Thompson is happy for Lennon that he is on his way out of Tottenham and backs him to be a success at Everton.
However, the 61-year-old has one doubt.
"It's a good signing for Everton, especially with the derby coming on Saturday,” Thompson told Sky Sports. "He needed to get away, but there is always the question with him of does he have the final delivery?”
Lennon has never scored goals regularly, and perhaps he will not be expected to do so at Everton, who are struggling in the Premier League at the moment.
However, the England international has abundance of pace and knows English football inside out, which will be an asset for Toffees manager Roberto Martinez.
Lennon is not an ‘exceptional’ football and has often flattered to deceive at Tottenham since moving from Leeds back in 2005.
However, at Everton the Englishman would be able to make a new start under a new manager. Perhaps that could help him in getting back some old form.
