Lawyer of Hatem Ben Arfa says former Newcastle United star could retire after Nice debacle

The French international has struggled to complete his move to Ligue 1 side Nice this month.

It is being reported that former Newcastle United winger Hatem Ben Arfa could retire from football after his move to Nice has once again been blocked by French officials.

His lawyer Jean-Jacques Bertrand has told French media Infosport+, as reported by the Shields Gazette, that Ben Arfa is considering his future away from the sport at the tender age of just 27-years-old:

“He has in the head tonight to stop (playing) football.”

Last month saw Ben Arfa depart Newcastle United on a free transfer. He was all set to agree a move to Ligue 1 side Nice, but that deal has fallen through. FIFA have ruled that Ben Arfa has already played for two teams this season, as he played during a loan spell at Hull City and in an under-21 game for Newcastle United, which was deemed as official by the football organisation. Players are not allowed to play for three teams in one season.

The French international had struggled on a loan spell at Hull this term and was desperate for a return to French football.

In fact, he told the media at the time of his move, as quoted by The Chronicle, that he would have turned down Real Madrid for Nice - not that Los Merengues were knocking at his door.

Now it looks like he might throw in the towel all together after his latest setback.
