Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that he will be surprised if Emmanuel Adebayor remains at Tottenham Hotspur for the rest of the season.
The 30-year-old Togo international has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs on transfer deadline day.
With so many clubs reportedly interested in Adebayor and Tottenham seemingly not averse to letting him go, Redknapp has said that he expects the striker to leave before the transfer window slams later tonight.
Speaking to Sky Sports this evening, the former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder said: “I will be surprised if Emmanuel Adebayor stays at Tottenham.
“He looks like he is surplus to requirements there, he is not going to get a game. He is probably thinking: do I go to QPR as they have a chance of going down?
“I think he needs to get his career going. At Tottenham, it is not happening for him.”
Thierry Henry was also asked by Sky Sports about his opinion on Adebayor. The Arsenal legend, who played with the striker at the Gunners, was asked if the former Monaco star can do the job at the top level.
This was Henry’s answer: “Yes, I think he can.”
Short and simple.
Adebayor may not be a great striker - he never was - but he is still someone who can play in the Premier League.
However, the former Metz star is not the type of striker that Tottenham need in order to move forward: he is not Champions League material.
Perhaps Adebayor should accept an offer today and move away from White Hart Lane. Maybe a change of scenario will do him good and help him recover the kind of form he showed in years gone by.
