Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy made a prediction over the future of Harry Kane on the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show for talkSPORT.
Murphy suggested that Kane will become the key England striker after he maintained his impressive form this season with a brace against West Brom over the weekend.
“You look at him play and he seems to want it so much – I think he’s got every single thing he needs to become England’s key striker,” said Murphy.
Kane has reached the 20 goal mark for Tottenham in all competitions so far this season and he’s carrying an attack with more experienced attacking players.
He’s been the striker that Mauricio Pochettino has trusted to lead his frontline in difficult situations throughout the season and he’s likely to have a big say on any success Tottenham achieve over the rest of the campaign.
What Pochettino, and his teammates, need to do is step in and protect him from the pressure when they can.
He’s dealing with the responsibility superbly at the moment, but the exposure and criticism will go through the roof should England manager Roy Hodgson select him for a senior squad in the near future.
Few can argue he deserves it, but Pochettino will be wary of anything which might affect the form of his key centre forward.
However, if he passes the main test of leading the England attack and is successful in the process, Spurs will reap the rewards for years at club level.
