Confirmed: Leeds player Michael Tonge leaves Elland Road on loan

Michael Tonge has swapped Leeds United for Millwall.

Leeds United have confirmed that midfielder Michael Tonge has joined Millwall for the rest of the season.

The deal means the 31-year-old could well have played his last match for Leeds given that his contract expires in the summer.

Tonge has made 76 appearances for Leeds, scoring five goals and providing two assists in that time.

Despite starting the season as a first-choice at Elland Road, Tonge has appeared sparingly in recent times and has not been in the match-day squad for any of the club’s last four matches.

Tonge’s experience in the game means he could be a canny addition to Millwall’s squad, with the Lions currently 22nd in the Championship, two points clear of safety.

Leeds are five points ahead of Millwall and could still do some more business themselves in what remains of the transfer window.

They have already signed Granddi Ngoyi and Sol Bamba on loan while reports from Sky Sports suggest a move for Edgar Cani is in the offing.
