Nottingham Forest announced the unsurprising news last night they had fired Stuart Pearce after a woeful run of form, but the choice of his replacement was a little more unexpected.
Freedman was fired earlier this season, after a spell which saw the Trotters become contenders for relegation. They have since shot up the table under the management of former Celtic boss Neil Lennon.
Upon his arrival as Owen Coyle's replacement, there had been high hopes that Freedman could lead them back to the Premier League.
Nottingham Forest had high hopes for promotion early this season after a successful start, but that trailed off from mid-September onwards.
Remarkably, Bolton and Forest both sit on 34 points, the difference being Forest have won only one of their last 10 games, and Bolton have lost just two of 10.
The reaction of Bolton fans to Freedman's appointment is enough to fill fans with worry, with the support unimpressed by the contribution he made to the club.
