The Reds leap-frogged the Hammers into seventh place after goals from Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge secured the victory. But there is still plenty for West Ham and their supporters to be excited about in the coming months.
Cheikhou Kouyate's absence due to the Africa Cup of Nations has certainly impacted West Ham's performances and manager Sam Allardyce will surely want the midfielder back on the field as soon as possible; but it was the continued presence of another player that had Hammers fans talking during and after the game.
Kevin Nolan has made 21 appearances for West Ham this season but yesterday he had a game to forget.
As you can see from the statistics below, Nolan's passing accuracy was just 46 per cent, while he failed to play any key passes and neither of his shots found the target let alone the back of the net.
|Passing Accuracy||Key Passes||Tackles Won||Interceptions Won||Shots||Shots on Target||Touches||Mins Played|
Nolan did make three interceptions and win four tackles but his overall contribution was not enough to ensure Allardyce's men headed back to London with a point or three.
After the match, we took to Twitter to see what West Ham fans thought of Nolan's latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
@whufc_official I felt a season of poor performances by Nolan is the main reason out league position is worsening— Darren Duchovny (@Hyper647580) January 31, 2015
Nice to see everyone on Nolan's case again today, everyone of those players were poor today, not just him— Steven potter (@spotter69) January 31, 2015
Injuries made us look like the #whufc of last season. Poor performance. Back up players not good enough and Nolan starts b4 Noble is a joke— Adam Bridge (@abridge75) January 31, 2015
Why has Downing been pushed wide to accommodate Nolan?? No coincidence our form has been poor @davidgold. Downing was superb in the middle— TONY C (@DJTonyCukg) February 1, 2015
If I understand Twitter correctly today, Kevin Nolan is to blame for every bad West Ham result at Anfield since 1963— Matt Drury (@mattdrury4) January 31, 2015
Kevin Nolan just isn't a starter anymore. Think he is good squad player and someone to bring on, but why drop @Noble16Mark ?— Worrabrehtael Mada (@ArchiAAL) January 31, 2015
West Ham fans moan at Kevin Nolan for us losing, but really they should assess the fact we played a better team and lost..— K.S.C (@Kaanage74) February 1, 2015
