Manager confirms reported United target Kevin Strootman will not play again this season

AS Roma - Stadio Olympico

Alleged Manchester United target Kevin Strootman will not play again this season according to his current boss.

The Mirror has published comments from AS Roma coach Rudi Garcia confirming that reported Manchester United target Kevin Strootman will not play again this season.

The news is a huge blow for the Netherlands international, who has only recently recovered from a cruciate ligament injury that robbed him of a World Cup place along with much of last season and the early part of the current campaign.

He has since returned, making seven appearances including six in Serie A and one in the Champions League, but after injuring his knee last month it has now been announced that he is out for the season.

“Losing him, especially after a long injury, is a catastrophe for us,” Garcia is quoted as saying.

“The season is over for Strootman.”

The 24-year-old midfielder is said to remain on United manager Louis van Gaal’s wanted list but this setback is another blow for a star who some may fear may never get back to his best.

He still has years ahead of him to do just that but there will now be a fear following the latest blow, with Strootman taking his time before he did finally set foot on the pitch again to ensure he had fully recovered.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the reported United target, but for now everyone should join in wishing him a speedy recovery.
