The Wales international had a relatively tough day at the office yesterday in his side’s 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Gareth Bale in recent months, with AS claiming this week that the Old Trafford side are ready to launch a world record bid for the star in the summer.
With Cristiano Ronaldo unavailable for Real Madrid’s clash with Real Sociedad yesterday, pressure was firmly on the former Tottenham winger’s shoulders to perform for the reigning European champions.
Although the Wales international created an assist in the Santiago Bernabeu side’s 4-1 victory in La Liga, Bale had a tough match in which he missed a glorious chance, which can be seen below.
Perhaps more importantly, Bale was booed by the Real Madrid fans for the second time this season, AS has reported.
As can be seen in the video, he intercepted a pass destined for James Rodriguez and opted to shoot rather than pass, killing a good opportunity.
Ronaldo’s frustration with Bale was on show in a league match against Espanyol earlier on this season, with the fans booing him on that occasion and the Spanish media accused the Welshman of being selfish.
Just how much impact the disdain of the crowd will have on Bale remains to be seen, but if United’s interest in the star is substantial it could well work into Louis van Gaal’s favour.
