Liverpool boss praises unsung heroes Sakho & Lallana after West Ham win

Brendan Rogers Press Conference Smiling - 16/02/2014

The Reds boss was delighted with the £43 million duo.

Brendan Rodgers has heaped praise on Mamadou Sakho and Adam Lallana for their performances against West Ham United on Saturday, according to Liverpool’s official website.

Sakho, signed by Liverpool for a reported £18 million in the summer of 2013, has solidified Rodgers’ back line since returning from injury.

And Lallana, a £25m signing this summer, has shown flashes of the brilliance he displayed at Southampton since moving to Anfield.

Both have struggled with fitness this term but were singled out for praise by Rodgers during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over West Ham yesterday afternoon.

He told reporters: "And again, defensively, when they had to deal with the pressure - I thought Sakho was outstanding today, really aggressive and strong."

He added: "I thought Adam Lallana was brilliant today.”

Rodgers went on to name a number of other Liverpool players he thought put in strong performance against West Ham – and he wasn’t wrong.

But Lallana and Sakho certainly made the biggest impression on him in terms of the language the Reds boss used.

The £43 million duo were unsung heroes as Liverpool dispatched West Ham, with all the plaudits going to the returning Daniel Sturridge, who scored, Raheem Sterling, also a scorer, and Philippe Coutinho, who set both goals up.

The Reds’ next clash comes in the FA Cup on Wednesday night, when their attentions will turn away from the Premier League briefly and towards knocking former striker Emile Heskey out of the tournament at Bolton Wanderers.
