Naughton reacts on Twitter to first game since leaving Spurs, praises Southampton

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender made his debut for Swansea City against Southampton.

Swansea debutant Kyle Naughton was delighted to have started his career in Wales with a win against Southampton.

The former Tottenham defender, who traded Spurs for Swansea this January, made his first start for the Welsh club at Southampton in the Premier League yesterday afternoon.

And, to many observers' surprise, the 26-year-old ended up on the winning side as Swansea beat the Saints 1-0 at St Mary's.

Naughton was understandably pleased, praising team-mate Jonjo Shelvey and the traveling support. He also, however, praised Southampton - who remain fourth in the Premier League table on goal difference.

Naughton fell out of favour at Tottenham this season, after failing to impress when given rare chances at right-back. The 26-year-old defender ultimately failed to oust Kyle Walker from the first team at Spurs and a move to Swansea consequently worked out better for all parties.

The Swans, of course, have enjoyed plenty of luck with previous Tottenham signings - Gylfi Sigurdsson being a prime example.

Swansea's win over Southampton lifts them to ninth in the Premier League table, while Naughton's former side Tottenham sit sixth in the standings.
