The Leeds goalkeeper has been rather error prone of late...
A blistering start to his Leeds United season seems to have had an adverse effect on Marco Silvestri.
The goalkeeper impressed during his first few months at Elland Road, especially when it came to his shot stopping.
But cracks started to appear in the Italian’s game – and now there is serious talk among Leeds fans that Silvestri should be dropped.
There are two camps, as ever. One suggests the 23-year-old should be demoted to the bench to provide the kick-start his season needs; the other says Silvestri is still Leeds’ best goalkeeper by far.
His form, however, has most certainly been shaky of late. And perhaps the biggest sign yet that the ‘keeper is struggling was that he kept on failing to produce in the air with new signing Sol Bamba in front of him.
Mistakes from Jason Pearce, Liam Cooper and co could perhaps be pinned on the defenders in the past – but, when a new man comes in and the errors continue, with Bamba himself looking solid, the evidence would seem to point to Silvestri.
Should Redfearn, then, drop the 23-year-old and send a message to the Leeds man that his form must improve? It seems to have done something for Simon Mignolet at Liverpool…
The alternative, of course, is to keep faith in Silvestri – and work with the shot stopper to iron out his flaws.
