Ian Wright jokes about Francis Coquelin's Charlton loan on Twitter

The Arsenal legend doesn't quite believe the 23-year-old couldn't make it into the Championship side's starting XI.

Another start for Arsenal brought another stellar performance from Francis Coquelin on Sunday afternoon.

Aston Villa didn't exactly provide the toughest of tests but the Gunners midfielder still dominated in midfield - just as he did at Premier League champions Manchester City.

And the quality of Coquelin's recent performances bring to light just how strange it was that the Arsenal star was out on loan at Charlton Athletic earlier this season.

The north London side have needed a protector in front of their back four for some time - but, rather suddenly, it appears as though they had one all along.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, meanwhile, has expressed his disbelief on Twitter that the 23-year-old couldn't even get into Charlton's starting XI.

Things are certainly looking up for Arsenal right now, although the big test for Arsene Wenger is whether things will last at their current pace - and how the Gunners will cope against tougher opposition.

Coquelin and co did the job against Aston Villa, as well as at Manchester City earlier this month, but it has been Arsenal's consistency that has so often let them down in recent years.

It may just have taken an ex-Charlton loanee to solve a big problem area for the north London side, though...
