Ospina could start in goal for Arsenal ahead of Wojciech Szczesny in the Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium in North London.
The Colombia international has taken advantage of Szczesny’s recent drop in form to stake a genuine claim in becoming Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The 26-year-old could feature against Villans today, and if he does, then his Colombia international teammate Sanchez will be ready for the challenge.
"I saw him when he came to Villa Park back in September which was nice and it was good to catch up,” the 28-year-old told Villa’s official website.
"He's now started to play and I'm pleased for him. He's a really big player for them. David is a good friend of mine but once we cross that white line, I want to win."
Like Ospina, defensive midfielder Sanchez moved to the Premier League in the summer of 2014 and has become an important player for Villa.
The former Elche star will have to be at his best today in order to help the Villans pick up at least a point at the Emirates.
Arsenal will be heavy favourites to win, although it will be interesting to see how the Gunners play without Alexis Sanchez.
The Chile international forward has a hamstring problem and faces a late fitness today for today’s game, as reported by Arsenal's official website.
Sanchez, who has scored 12 goals and created 56 chances in 21 Premier League appearances so far this season, will be a big miss for Arsenal, but manager Arsene Wenger does have enough players to step up their game and rise to the occasion.
