According to reports from Calciomercato last night, Manchester United are eyeing a late transfer window deal for Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan.
The Red Devils seem keen on bolstering their midfield ahead of the so-called business end of the campaign with many rumours speculating over Dutchman Kevin Strootman.
However, fresh reports from Italy suggested it was the Roma star’s teammate Nainggolan who United have earmarked as the man to booster their midfield ranks.
“The 'Red Devils' are willing to shell out 40 million Euros for the former Cagliari midfielder,” Calciomercato report.
The Daily star go one further in their assessment of the situation, saying: “Manchester United are set to launch a deadline day bid for Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan.”
Nainggolan has started 15 Serie A matches for Roma this season, scoring three goals and contributing with a further assist.
Described as an all-round midfielder, the 26-year-old has averaged 2.6 tackles and 2.1 shots per match this season – with only Totti attempting more strikes on goal as stated by Whoscored.com.
The impending departure of Darren Fletcher will create more space for a new midfielder at Old Trafford and Michael Carrick’s latest injury set-back means they are currently a little light.
Many observers feel their rhythm needs quickening, with the strikers being starved of chances despite Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata providing creativity from deeper areas.
Nainggolan could be the man to provide the necessary speed and link-up play between the lines, though if reports are to be believed he won’t be available for cheap.
