Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has labelled teammate Michael Carrick as one of the best players he has ever played with, the Sun report.
Herrera’s company at Old Trafford includes some of the world’s most renowned stars – such as Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and club-record signing Angel di Maria.
However, the former Athletic Bilbao favourite instead reserved special praise for Carrick when questioned on the importance of the midfielder, tagging him as the player who holds it all together.
“He always gives us calmness. He’s a very calm guy when he’s playing. He gives me confidence,” Herrera was quoted as saying by The Sun.
“He is very good for the young players because he always tries to help, not necessarily with words but with his attitude and his calmness.”
“He is one of the best players I’ve ever played with and a very good professional. We can all improve by looking at him and what he does. I feel lucky to play with him.”
Carrick missed the first three months of the season through injury and his absence was evidently noted as the Red Devils struggled for form in the campaign’s early stages.
After returning in the Manchester derby, the 33-year-old remained an ever-present figure in Louis van Gaal’s XI as United embarked on a ten-game unbeaten run.
However, the Dutch coach now faces a dilemma after the former Spurs midfielder has succumbed to injury and is set to miss the next four weeks of action,as confirmed by the club’s official website.
