It was a long time coming, but Liverpool finally welcomed Daniel Sturridge back into their match-day squad after the striker had been side-lined for the last five months.
The England international has not featured for Liverpool since the end of August, a thigh muscle strain and latterly a hamstring injury keeping the 25-year-old out of action for far too long.
But against West Ham United on Saturday, Sturridge was named on the bench, with Liverpool’s official Twitter account posting a picture of the player’s shirt hanging in the Reds’ dressing room.
It is a sight Liverpool fans have been waiting a long time for, just as they have the image of the player finally stepping back out onto the Anfield turf after far too long away.
But he went one better than that, scoring on his return and showing the mis-firing Mario Balotelli how it is done.
While the image of Sturridge's shirt hanging ready in the dressing room suggested hope among the Anfield faithful, the sight of him scoring another goal to add to his impressive tally proved he is ready to make up for lost time.
