Michael Owen confident over Arsenal v Villa prediction

Michael Owen says he just can't see Aston Villa scoring past Arsenal.

Paul Lambert's Aston Villa side face an uphill task this weekend when they travel to Arsenal this weekend, hoping to spring an upset.

Villa sit 15th as opposed to Arsenal's 5th position, but have the unwanted record as the league's lowest scorers, coming up against a confident Gunners defence, which kept a clean sheet in their last Premier League match against second most prolific team, Manchester City.

Former England international Michael Owen is confident Arsenal's defence will hold up to the weak Villa attack.

He wrote in his BetVictor Predictions column: "It is now 522 minutes and counting since Villa last scored in the PL and, despite their two goals against Bournemouth in the Cup last weekend, I can’t see them finding the net at the Emirates against a confident and impressive Arsenal."

Villa have scored a staggeringly low 11 goals this season, well below the Premier League average for 2014/15.

Aston Villa 11
Average  28.5

Against Arsenal, Villa have netted just six times in seven games over the past four seasons in the league.

11 goals this season is a particularly woeful return, especially considering they have Christian Benteke back from the injury which caused him to miss the World Cup and the start of the season.

If Arsenal can score early, especially more than once, the game could turn out to be an exhibition match in their favour, much like the simple win at home to Stoke City three weeks ago.
